Between the Gods of Western Medicine and Eastern Mysticism – Clair Zimmerman

Session #5 on Friday, March 11, 2011

Bro. Clair Zimmerman of Lititz, PA

Short history of medicine: Patient comes in to the doctor and says, “Doctor, I have an earache.” In 2000 BC, the doctor says, “Here, eat this root.” In 1000 AD, the doctor says, “The root is heathen, say this prayer.” In 1850, the doctor says, “The prayer is superstition, drink this potion.” In 1940, the doctor says, “The potion is snake oil, swallow this pill.” In 1985, the doctor says, “The pill is ineffective, take this antibiotic.” In 2000, the doctor says, “The antibiotic is artificial, eat this root.”

Confusion? Deception? What is going on here?

  1. I have contacted most of the speakers with requests for their handouts and slide shows. When I get them, I’m update each individual post with appropriate links.
